The weekly meeting venue is “Season’s Grille”.

July 11 - This evening Pres. Amy conducted her first Club Assembly. She outlined her project plans for the Rotary year 2007/2008. She announced that Club Board meetings would be held on the first Wed. of the month.

Amy stressed the need for membership recruitment stating that the District's goal is 3 pct. For the District; Amy's goal is three new members. She said that we should treat member recruitment as “a special” event. We must also get new members involved in Club activities immediately after their membership becomes effective.

Amy reiterated the need to make our Club's activities more visible to the community; many individuals still do not know what Rotary is all about. She also stated that our Foundation Board should review the list of recipients of our Golf Tournament proceeds; asking whether there may be other “charities” in need in our community.

Amy has already met with other Club Presidents in our area to discuss combined projects. One such potential project is “10,000 Steps”; a fitness program for 5th graders. This project would be conducted working with the schools PTO's and would be run as a competition between the schools. Students would be provided with pedometers to register their progress. Amy would also like to establish an Interact Club at KAHS.

We had as guests Berks County Kennel Club dog show committee members Sally Birgl, Al Staudt, and Cheryl Burns. We discussed various aspects of the show including security/traffic control, admission/parking fees, and grounds maintenance. The committee members from the Kennel Club are all new this year.

Other guests included visiting Rotarian George Shoop and Jim Springer's guest Tom Taylor.

July 18 - Patt McCloskey, Camp Neidig Chair, introduced two of our three students; Steve Hobaugh (KAHS) who was accompanied by his parents Florita and Bob and Ethan Talcotta who was accompanied by his mother Becky is home schooled. The third student Louis Bodero (KAHS) could not attend. Both students were very appreciative of the opportunity to attend the Leadership Camp. They marveled at how quickly they made friends with other members of their “Tribe” and what they accomplished in just a few days. They wished that more of their classmates could attend.

Ethan, a Conawingo Tribe member, said that he already has plans to get together with the new friends he made at camp and he mentioned the stiff competition between the Tribes. Steve, a Mohawk Tribe member, talked about the team building experience and the great speakers that addressed the students.

Bob Hobaugh introduced Amanda Walter and her father Daniel. Amanda recently returned from Spain after spending one month there as a summer exchange student. She spoke briefly about her stay in Spain, stating that she had to get used to eating lunch at 3pm and dinner at 10pm. Although she does not speak fluent Spanish she managed to get along well. Also present was Andrea Pujol, a Spanish student, who will spend one moth here in the US; also through the summer student exchange program

July 25 - This evening we recognized the recipients of our Rotary scholarships. Pres. Amy introduced Rebecca Von Funk, a junior at Elizabethtown College; she is majoring in Math with a minor in Computer Science. She is currently attempting to pass her Actuarial exam. Sarah Kenney will be a freshman at Lebanon Valley College this fall. She was accompanied by her parents Debra and Allan Kenney. Sarah is an Elementary Education Major with a minor in Spec. Ed. She was a member of the Leo Club and volunteered with the Cancer Fund's Relay For Life.

Amy announced the other current scholarship recipients. They include Kate Rettstadt who graduated from Ursinus College Magna Cum Laude. She majored in Spanish and is currently in Spain interviewing for a position. Emily Ritter is an Accounting Major at Penn State and is currently an intern in Philadelphia. At Penn State Emily helped raise $10,000 for the Red Cross. Brent Koller, a Chemical Engineering Major, is attending Penn State as a sophomore.

The Donald Boyer Scholarship for Community Service went to Steve Rettstadt. He will attend the University of Pittsburgh Majoring in Sports Administration and Management. Steve, an Eagle Scout, used recycled lumber to construct dugouts at the ball field for his Eagle Scout project. Thanks Amy for tireless your work with this important project.

Jim Springer introduced his guest Bill Yurvati. Bill is a proposed new member. Also present was ADG Pete Miller who reminded all of us that next week, 8/1 will be DG Gerry Long's visitation. He urged all of us to attend.
